Small Group Questions

It is still good to share names even if you’ve met for a couple of weeks now (people are probably still learning names) and answer the warm-up question:

  • What's a completely useless talent you have?

The Vision question will be in the Hands Questions this week.

Head Questions

These questions are all about understanding the passage intellectually. One helpful tip is to remind everyone that there are no bad questions, and encourage the group to ask their own questions of the passage.

Read Matthew 12:14-50

  • Why did the Pharisees accuse Jesus of casting out demons by Satan's power?

  • Could someone accidentally commit the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?

  • Is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit a one-time action or a continuous action?

  • How does the illustration of the tree and its fruit help explain the condition of the heart?

  • According to this passage, what is the danger of continually receiving truth without responding to it?

  • If you could summarize the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit in your own words how would you summarize it?

  • What does it practically look like to continuously harden your heart to God?

  • Can someone ever cross a line of hardening their heart so much that they can’t respond to Jesus?

Heart Questions

These questions help us to reflect on how the passage personally affects us. Encourage everyone to share using I statements during this time.

  • How would you describe the current condition of your heart: soft, distracted, or hardened? Why?

  • What practices help keep your heart tender toward God rather than simply increasing your knowledge?

Hands Questions

These questions help us to apply the passage to our lives.

  • How can our group make sure we're pursuing life change, not just Bible knowledge?

  • What habits could we build into our group that help us respond to God's Word instead of just discussing it?
