Warm-Up Question

Share your name and answer this question:

What is a job, task, or responsibility you would never trust yourself to do? Why?

Small Group Guidelines

If your group has not walked through the guidelines yet, take some time to do that together.

If your group has already gone through them:

See how many guidelines your group can remember.

Review and fill in any that were forgotten.

Head Questions

Goal: These questions are meant to help us understand the passage, think deeply, and learn from one another. Encourage people to bounce ideas off each other, and allow moments of silence so everyone has time to think and respond.

Read Matthew 11:1–30

What is the difference between the doubt of John the Baptist and the doubt of the generation Jesus describes in verses 16–19?

Can doubt ever help someone grow in their faith, or is doubt always a hindrance? Why?

Why do you think seeing Jesus perform miracles was still not enough for some people to believe in Him?

Are there things about Jesus that we may not fully understand unless we first believe in Him? Why or why not?

What do you think Jesus means when He says, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light” in verse 30?

Heart Questions

Goal: These questions help us understand our emotions, desires, and struggles so we can be known and loved by others while allowing the Lord to transform our hearts. Encourage everyone to share using “I” statements. Allow pauses and silence so people have space to reflect.

When you experience doubt, fear, or uncertainty, what are you most tempted to do instead of coming to Jesus?

What helps you trust Jesus again when your faith feels weak?

Hands Questions

Goal: These questions help us think practically about how we live out what we have learned from God’s Word.

Why is it important that our small group is a place where people can bring their doubts and questions?

What are some things we might unintentionally do that would make people feel like they cannot be honest about their struggles or questions?

What are some ways we can create a group where people feel safe being honest about their doubts?
